The Breakeven Point

I know what you are thinking.  Why are there a group of flamingo's and a pelican in this picture.  Well, it's sort of symbolic.  I'll explain.

I am sort of like that pelican right there standing on my two feet on a thin ledge.  The thin ledge symbolizes the break even point for Ali K Chocolates.   The Eid Mubarak Chocolates are selling now, and I can actually (gasp!) see the horizon on where my break even point lies.     What is a break even point you ask?

Well, its the point when you actually are becoming profitable.   Currently everything being sold is going directly to costs, and it takes most businesses time to get profitable.  I was pretty bummed to think that despite the success with selling the Eid Mubarak Chocolates, I still a long way off from any tangible profit.  That is until last night when I sat down and did a little analysis on all of it.  It turns out I am not quite as far as I imagined.

So, the flamingo's are the successful Fortune 500's I am aiming to become.  Clearly I have a long way to go (which is why it's a bit of a swim to get there in the picture, hehe).

Inspiring the youngsters

Ok, I will admit it.  I tend to waste a little too much time on facebook.  I'm mostly procrastinating rather than doing more important stuff, of course.   So today when I got an instant message on facebook from a family friend's daughter, age 10, I was very surprised by some of the things she said to me.

I had dropped off some boxes of the chocolates to her older sister earlier in the day, so she has actually seen the Eid Mubarak Chocolate Bar in person.   She said, 'I love your chocolates, they are soooo niiicccceeee!!'   I was so flattered.  Then she said, 'I want to do what you do.'  Wow!  I feel amazed that I can have that sort of affect on a girl at the age of 10!   I told her that if she puts her mind to it, she could do anything.    I think just the idea that I could influence someone else into following their passion really makes me feel like I am doing something right.   Whether or not I am successful, if I have pointed others in the right direction, then I am guessing it was not all for naught.

So Facebook wasn't a time waster today afterall.   :)

Gold Shimmery Goodness

Yaay!   Eid is one of those times when you feel like really celebrating.  After fasting for a whole month, you want something glitzy and all I could think of was adding some edible gold shimmer dust atop, to bring up the bling bling!      I think one of the best parts about it now with the gold shimmer is that it really pops!    I have got some people loving the gold shimmer, and some going for the traditional mocha look.  Either way it tastes absolutely delectable!  My mouth is watering looking at this picture.  It's soooo hard being a chocoholic AND and professional chocolatier.  It takes all my will power not to eat my business away! LOL.    Anyway, just wanted to share the picture.  Enjoy!

Eid is just one week away!

I cannot believe how fast this summer flew by!!   It's already September.    I spent most of the day driving around looking for people who might be interested in the chocolates. I had a huge concern about rain, however, Hurricane Earl never showed up.  I guess all that hype was just for tv ratings, since it did not rain even one drop here in New York.

Anyway, the few people who we approached loved the chocolate but didn't bring money with them to the masjid.     So, I am going to regroup and just focus on production.  I am starting to see interest and that is a good sign.  This last week of Ramadan is like the week before Christmas, with everyone suddenly actually remembering its time to shop for presents.

Eid is right around the corner.  Who knew it would arrive so quickly!

Ali K Chocolates is officially open for business, and I am happy to report that the chocolate is absolutely delicious. It melts in your mouth, in a sort of creamy and light way, which certainly leaves you wanting for more.

I used the milk chocolate to create the Eid Mubarak Chocolate bar. It's almost half a pound of pure bliss! Each bar is handmade to ensure perfection! Eid is coming up fast, so I would order soon.

It's finally begun...

Blogosphere get ready!

Some of the best things in the world are the ideas that come from a need missing in a community. That's why I created Ali K Chocolates. I created this company so that muslims can finally get something for their holidays.
